Job Summary


The University of Zimbabwe is inviting applications for the following vacant posts:
ANIMAL HOUSE
CHIEF/SENIOR/ MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST – (2 POSTS)

Duties And Responsibilities


Duties
 Management of an Animal House mainly in the selection of breeds and acquiring breed stocks.
 Costing the production of laboratory animals and establishing prices,
 Providing the University Researchers with different types of animals required for teaching and research.
 Training skills in laboratory animal breeding, husbandry and human treatment of animals.
 Training of users of the experiments animals ethical use and care.

 Developing and maintaining the Unit’s Health and Safety procedures
 Maintenance of Unit furniture and equipment, including carrying out inventory and coordinating repairs.
 Purchasing the Unit’s equipment, reagents and consumables.
 Supervising Junior Staff.
 Assisting the research Works carried out in the Faculty

Qualifications And Experience


Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
Applicants should have:
 A Master of Science Degree in Animal Health and Production/Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine/Master of Science Degree in Biological Sciences with training in zoology or equivalent. Applicants with Bachelor of Science Degree will only be considered for the Technology post.
 At least three (3) years’ experience in animal husbandry and must have a wide experience regarding all the provisions of the Scientific Animal Experiments Act (1982) and the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.
 Knowledge and be familiar with education 5.0 Philosophy.
