Consultant: Wellness Management

The Employee Wellness Consultant leads the strategy implementation, custodianship and enablement of the Employee Wellness portfolio and primary Health Care services in line with the vision and business goals of MTN SA.

Key Deliverables:

  • The Employee Wellness Consultant will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

Governance

Tactical Meetings

  •  Hold tactical meetings, ensure relevant participation and provide guidance and input in the various discussions
  •  Manage and implement MTN SA wide Wellness initiatives, elicit inputs from relevant parties
  •  Manage and implement adequate risk mitigation and controls and elicit inputs from relevant parties
  •  Initiate approval process on new initiatives
  •  Prepare proposals of related initiatives within the Wellness portfolio

Escalations

Escalate issues within areas of responsibility that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact

 Provide solutions, within delegation of authority to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery

Reporting

  •  Report on a periodic basis relating to progress made within the function and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
  •  Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required

Substream budgets

  •  Manage function’s budgets in line with business objectives
  •  Ensure that the cost of operations is reduced, in line with a least cost operating strategy stemming from the business drivers

Key role responsibilities:

Collaboration

  •  Continually develop a culture of strong collaboration and effective team working
  •  Encourage knowledge transfer through the implementation of a knowledge transfer plan and drive continuous improvement philosophy through the knowledge transfer plan
  •  Liaise with employees, medical practitioners and suppliers, trade unions, business and Group HR where required
  •  Ensure open communication channels with staff and implement change management interventions where necessary
  •  Promote a ‘MTN centric’ and ‘partnership approach’ to develop strong relationships with other working groups and ensure adherence to MTN SA and MTN Group governance

Wellness Delivery

  •  Codevelop and manage the Wellness policies and procedures for MTN SA
  •  Identify opportunities for improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the Wellness practices and administration in MTN SA
  •  Advise on Wellness issues in line with SA law and regulations, company policy and previous precedents set, taking account of relevant company objectives/imperatives and industry best practice, in order to minimize legal risks
  •  Continually monitor effectiveness and compliance with Wellness and legislative guidelines
  •  Manage and provide timely solutions for noncompliance issues
  •  Support MTN Group to rollout Employee Wellness related surveys and benchmarking

Health Education

  •  Responsible for planning, organising and facilitating wellness events on a periodic basis
  •  Liaise with suppliers in preparation for planned wellness events
  •  Manage the internal messaging of wellness events and hold active communication with MTN SA’s Marketing department
  •  Provide accurate and insightful reporting on effectiveness and lessons learned following wellness events

Management of the Wellness Centre

  •  Responsible for the smooth running of the Wellness Centre which includes ensuring that the centre is fully equipped at all times
  • Execute the ordering and record keeping of medication and consumables from pharmaceutical companies as and when required
  •  Develop and manage the scheduling of Clinic Hours

 Manage and monitor the centre’s temperature for storage of medication as per regulatory requirements

Primary Healthcare

  •  Execute daily consultations of minor ailments that fall within scope reported by MTN SA employees
  •  Attend to emergency medical situations within MTN SA and report accordingly to the relevant parties
  •  Implement medical referrals to external specialists upon dealing with complex medical conditions
  •  Responsible for drafting and submitting reports on a periodic basis

Manage the injury on duty (IOD) process

  •  Manage relevant reporting to the Workers Commission
  •  Conduct injury on duty investigations on the merit of each incident
  •  Processing of IOD forms for hospitals and Workmen’s Commissioner

Medical surveillance

  •  Coordinate and manage the preemployment medicals, baseline Medicals, exit medicals and relevant reporting on outcomes
  •  Coordinate and manage the executive medical program and process

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education

  •  Minimum of 3year tertiary degree/diploma (Nursing, Medical Sciences, Psychiatry or Occupational Health)
  •  Dispensing licence is crucial

Experience:

  •  Minimum of 5 years of occupational health or related medical field plus at least 3 years in an Occupational Health environment working across diverse cultures or multinational/ international organisation
  •  Experience working in a medium to large organization
  •  Project management experience
