Finance Assistant: Local NGO

A Non-profit making organisation based in Makonde is seeking qualified applicants for a Finance Assistant position. The position will be expected to support the finance department in processing payments, acquittals, capacity building and project reporting

Duties And Responsibilities


Major responsibilities
Originating organisational payment requests in accordance with organisational procedures and donor requirements; Preparing appropriate documents for payments and writing of transfer instructions, and having them approved by relevant Heads of Departments/budget holders and the Director; Communicating with bank signatories, taking payment instructions for signing and delivery to the bank; Preparing all the statutory monthly returns relating to PAYE, NSSA etc; Receipting cash received and banking it timeously; Maintaining petty cash/cash float, disbursing to staff, following up receipts and reimbursing float when necessary; Reviewing Travel & Subsistence Allowances acquittals, preparing journals for expense allocation and carrying out staff accounts reconciliations regularly; Preparing journals on a regular basis for allocation & reallocation of expenditure and correction of errors; Data capture from source documents into the Pastel before production of trial balance & all financial statements; Assisting the Accountants to prepare income and expenditure statements and management reports for the office and for donors; Preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements; Maintaining a sound filing system for all accounting documents and carrying out any other finance duties as delegated by the Finance Officer.

Qualifications And Experience


Minimum qualification and experience
Degree or National Diploma or equivalent; At least a 2 years’ experience in NGO sector and related field with strong knowledge of USAID grants regulations; Sound experience in using Pastel Accounting package an added advantage; Good written and spoken English; Good interpersonal skills and team player; possession of a Clean Class 4 Drivers License.
